English Teacher Training Courses
Continuous learning for better teaching
Founded in 1953, the International House organisation has been a pioneer in language teacher development. International House created some of the first professional training courses for English teachers, and the Cambridge CELTA qualification is based on the original IH Certificate.
At International House Milan | San Donato, we offer structured pathways for both new and experienced teachers — from initial qualifications to advanced diplomas and specialist training for teaching children and teenagers.
A good teacher never stops learning.
Choose your teacher training pathway
Whether you want to train to teach English or you already teach and want to progress, choose the route that fits your background and goals:
- Initial qualification → CELTA (start teaching English worldwide)
- Advanced qualification → DELTA (for experienced teachers, Level 7)
- Specialise in teaching children & teenagers → Teaching Young Learners (IHVYL, IHCYLT, Starter Kit)
- Ongoing development → free workshops & Annual ELT Conference
All programmes are supported by experienced teacher trainers and our main qualifications are externally recognised (for example by Cambridge English, AISLI or the International House network, depending on the programme).

Conference & Workshops (free CPD)
We support teachers with professional development through our Annual ELT Conference in Milan and free teacher workshops throughout the year. Booking is required and places are limited.
Teaching English to Young Learners and Teenagers (specialist training)
Teaching children and teenagers requires age-appropriate methodology and specialised tools. IH Milan offers a suite of live online teacher training options designed to be immediately applicable in class.
Choose the course that matches the age group you teach:
- IHVYL (ages 3–6) – teaching very young learners
- Young Learner Starter Kit (ages 6–11) – practical, intensive live online course
- IHCYLT (ages 6–17) – deeper qualification for children and teenagers
TKT/CLIL
TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) is a Cambridge English exam that assesses the theoretical and practical skills of teachers in state and private schools.
International House offers teachers a specific preparation course for the TKT exam.
